The WTT Guide to St Patrick’s Day

A somewhat unofficial public holiday is just around the corner, and it’s one of our favourites. Yep, it’s almost St Patrick’s Day! Prepare to get into the Irish spirit, do a little jig of excitement, and get ready for a good ol’ Irish knees up! We’ve compiled a fool-proof guide to celebrating the 17th March in style – including what to do, what to eat and drink, and most importantly, what to wear!

What to do

We’re not all lucky enough to be spending St Patrick’s Day on the Emerald Isle itself, but don’t worry, the celebrations extend to over the Irish sea, too! For the biggest St Paddy’s Day celebration, head to Birmingham… The world’s third-biggest St Patrick’s Day parade will be held on Sunday 11th March, and is basically set to be a huge party with over 1,000 marchers and 60 floats! Set to be in the capital? London’s St Patrick Day Festival sees a huge lineup of performances, speeches, parades and markets in Trafalgar Square alone – with even more going on elsewhere in the city over the entire St Patrick’s weekend! The celebrations are also set to be huge in Edinburgh, with the Edinburgh Festival of Ireland lasting from Friday 16th March to the end of the month! Head there to see traditional Irish dances, films and sports. If you’re looking closer to WTT HQ, the Manchester Irish Festival is held from Friday 2nd March to Sunday 18th March – that’s over two weeks of Irish fun, including a parade and festival market on Albert Square. Don’t forget about the Irish pubs you can find across the country if you’re after a more quiet and intimate knees up!

What to eat (and drink!)

If you’re not planning to venture out this year, celebrate St Patrick’s Day at home with a selection of traditional Irish food and drink! For a hearty Irish meal, you can’t go wrong with a shepherds pie or a rustic stew. Don’t forget to add soda bread on the side, it’s tradition! To satisfy your sweet tooth, why not try ice cream or cheesecake with a dash of something strong. You say Irish, we think Irish cream liqueur! Enjoy it over ice for a strong Irish kick, or add a splash to your coffee or hot chocolate for a little treat! Why not try a Martini? It’s not exactly Irish, until you add espresso! Alternatively, add chartreuse will create a bold green Emerald Martini that’s bang on theme with loads of flavour! If you’re not stocking up on the Guiness, what about a classic Mojito? It’s fresh and tangy, with lots of basil for a green flair. This drink is bound to get you dancing!

What to wear

Put the Guiness hat and green wig away – we’ve got you covered with a gorgeous selection of St Patrick’s Day Dresses! With a range of seven fun prints in bodycon and swing styles, you’re bound to find one perfect for you! Pair the dresses with classic black or nude accessories for a stunning look!

If you’re celebrating throughout the week, the Clover Bodycon is a great option for you. With a more subdued print, and a stunning colour combination of black and green, this dress is perfect to wear for work or to a more formal occasion. We’ve paired it with the Black Flat Pearl Heel High Boots to amp up the glam!

For family celebrations at home, we love the Rainbow Irish Swing. You’ll grab everyone’s attention with the fun colours and patterns, and the comfy swing style is perfect if you’re on the go! For a comfy look that isn’t too casual, pair it with the Maya Black Suede Studded Ankle Boots.

Go bold in the Green Happy St Patrick’s Day Bodycon, it’s perfect if you love to be the life of the party! The vibrant green colour will have heads turning and the print screams all things Irish like nothing else! We love it paired with our Nude Studded Sandals to highlight the pot of gold detailing.

If you love your LBD, but want to get into the Irish spirit, the Lucky Irish Bodycon is perfect for you. The black background keeps it looking chic and glam, but the subdued pattern fits the theme perfectly! With this dress, you can’t go wrong with a pair of gorgeous Black Sequin Strap Heels to make the dress pop.

Complete your St Paddy’s day look with a gorge bag! The Alessia Black Pearl Embellished Bag with Matching Clutch is stunning and practical – it’s a great size for all your essentials and comes with a matching clutch! A little black bag is a must-have, especially if you’re heading out to a busy parade! We love the Black Lexi Shoulder Bag with Gold Detail and Valentina Black Studded Handbag – especially with the splash of gold!

We’re hoping this chilly weather passes for the big day, but if not, make sure you keep warm! For a smarter look, throw the Black Ribbed Blazer Jacket over a bodycon dress! Alternatively, pair the Black Shay Cold Shoulder Cardigan with a more casual swing and ankle boots!
