The Guide: Dress Styles

With all the different dress styles available, it’s easy to get the names confused! Here, we’ve given you a quick and easy run down of the main styles, including helpful tips on how and when to wear them.

The Skater

Up first is our signature fit: the skater dress. This style is characterised by a fitted waist and a flared skirt falling above the knee. The skater is a universally flattering style and looks stunning on all shapes and sizes! The flared skirt balances out a broader upper body, while also concealing a larger bottom half of a pear shape. Equally, it creates a curvy illusion on an athletic shape, whilst enhancing the natural shape of an hour-glass figure!

The Bodycon

The bodycon is another of our more popular styles. This figure-hugging piece outlines your shape and comes in both mini, midi and maxi lengths. This style is amazing to show off your gorgeous figure as it boasts confidence! As well as in a variety of colours and prints, bodycons can also come with collar, buttons or overlay detailings to amp up the wow factor!

The Maxi

A maxi is a floor- or ankle-length dress. Available in a variety of styles, maxi’s can be dressed up for formal occasions, or dressed down for casual days and holidays. They look great on every shape and size, and can suit any style and personality! We’re huge fans of this style, if you haven’t already guessed…

The Swing

The favourite seasonal style: our Halloween and Christmas swing dresses are always a huge hit! This fit is characterised by a tighter top around the bust with material flowing to form an unstructured flare, generally with the hem above the knee. As in the name, this dress has a lot of movement, and is great for staying comfortable and chic!

The Shift

Quite simply, a shift dress style falls from the shoulders in a straight line. It’s similar to a swing dress, only a bit more structured and slightly looser! They also finish above the knee. Shift dresses are also available with a tied or belted waist to add a touch of definition, without hugging your figure completely. This style is great for any less-casual days as the structure and definition adds a touch of formality!

The Midi

A midi dress is one which falls between the knee and the shin, and is a style that’s growing more and more popular every season! Available in a variety of styles including A-line and bodycon, there’s a gorgeous midi dress to suit everyone. A bodycon style midi is a great conservative style perfect for work, whereas looser fitting pieces might be better for more casual days!

The Tunic

A tunic is a piece that is longer than a top but is shorter than a dress, typically the hem rests around half-way between your hips and your knees. They’re super versatile as they can be worn alone, or over jeans and trousers, whatever the season!
