How To: Get ready in a hurry

When getting the kids ready for school and out the door develops into a daily battle, we often find ourselves rushing around, stressed, getting ourselves ready for the day ahead. Here, we’ve compiled a list of top tips to help you get ready quickly, so you can be prepared for whatever the morning throws at you (usually, tantrums about school uniforms and brushing teeth).

1. Get a good night’s sleep!

Easier said than done, we know. But getting a good amount of quality sleep is the best preparation for your day! When you wake up, you’ll feel much more fresh and bright, and you’ll have more energy. Getting ready quickly will be super easy if you aren’t feeling sleepy and groggy! Click here for a couple of tips that might help to improve your sleep!

2. Pre-plan your outfit

Banish that ‘nothing-to-wear’ feeling by planning your outfit in advance. Take five minutes out of your evening by pulling tomorrow’s clothes out of your wardrobe. Not only will this save you time in the morning as your outfit will be easily accessible, but selecting in advance will take a lot of stress out of your morning, allowing you a more relaxed start to the day!

3. Pre-pack lunches

Doing more the night before means there’s less to do in the morning! Prepare lunches for the following day in the evening so you can literally pick them up as you leave. A great tip is to make an extra portion of your dinner to save for following day. This is not only saves time, but also saves spending more money. Plus, you’re more likely to have a nutritious lunch instead of picking up a meal deal!

4. Avoid the snooze button

One of the biggest obstacles to getting ready quickly is the dreaded snooze button. It’s far too easy to push that button and stay in bed longer. A great tip to combat this is by placing your alarm clock on the other side of the room. This way, you literally have to get up and walk to turn the alarm off, which makes waking up much easier!

5. Ditch the ironing board

Is there anything more annoying than spotting a huge crease in your blouse just as you’re about to put it on? We don’t think so! Having to get the iron out wastes valuable time and adds extra stress. Instead, hang the clothes in the bathroom while you have a shower; the steam from the hot water will gently remove any creases!

6. Optimise your beauty routine

If you’re anything like us, you can’t just ‘get up and go’; you’ll need at least a shower to wake yourself up in the morning (and that’s before even thinking about a coffee). But don’t worry! You can keep your beauty routine and save time by incorporating multi-tasking products. Consider using moisturising body wash in the shower, or use BB cream or tinted moisturiser for your make-up base. Dry shampoo is the time-saving life-saver when it comes to hair, and if you’re truly strapped for time, apply a bold lipstick and a quick brush of mascara for an effortless make-up look.

7. Streamline your exit

Save yourself from the dreaded ‘I-can’t-find-my-keys’ panic! Keep all your daily essentials together in an easy to reach place so you can just grab it and go. You could keep everything in your handbag, and leave it in a safe place on your way to the front door, so you don’t have to go out of your way to get everything you need for the day ahead!

Even just adopting one of these tips could help you save time and reduce morning stresses, work out which work best for you and your family to really optimise your time! Feel free to share any of your own tips in the comments below, we’d love to know what helps you get ready for the day!
