Lent is coming up (1st March- 13th April) so there’s no better time to start kicking some of those bad habits we’re all guilty of! This time, we’re not talking about chocolate or alcohol, but things we should all recognise don’t always do us good. Get your girls together and try and give up one (or all!) of these for lent. Just remember, you’re a strong woman who can’t be beat! We believe in you!
We’ve even selected some affordable dress inspiration that you can treat yourself with once lent is over!
1. Filtering every photo of yourself
There’s a bit of a joke going around social media that if a modern day woman went missing, nobody would know which photo to use on posters because we obsess about changing how we look through filters. As much as we probably don’t like to admit it, we’re all guilty of it. Most of us probably have multiple apps on our phones to manipulate the way we look, but we shouldn’t feel the need to change it. Banish the filters and you’re more likely to stand out for being original.

2. Facebook stalking your ex
This is dangerous territory. Facebook is brilliant when it comes to interacting with old friends, and sharing parts of our lives with the people we care about, but this also means that we have an easy way to snoop on our exes. You don’t need to do this to yourself. You don’t need to see who is commenting on your ex’s new profile pic, or who he went on holiday to Thailand with. There’s a reason you broke up, so don’t question it. Move on and quit stalking your ex.

3. Make-up
Now, we love make-up as much as Kylie Jenner… but scrolling through Instagram, it becomes clear that every girl is starting to look the same. Filled-in dark eyebrows, overdrawn lips and strong contour are causing us to look like clones of each other. We’re not saying completely give up on make-up for lent, but maybe try something different, or not wear a full face every single day. Your skin will thank you for it.

4. Comparing yourself to others
This one is possibly the hardest on this list, because whether you realise it or not, we all compare ourselves to other people. Whether it be in your career or fitness, we can’t help but measure our lives against those around us. We all share so much of ourselves and our lives online that we can’t help but see how others live theirs, and practically measure their happiness against our own. In reality, no one is completely as they seem online. Stop looking at the negatives, and remind yourself each day of something that you love about YOUR life. It might be how excited your pets are to see you when you get home, or how your mum makes the perfect cup of tea. It’s often the little things that make you realise how great your life is.

5. Over-analysing
Do you lie in bed at night and think about all the things you should have said that day? Do you constantly bring up old memories and think about how you should have behaved differently, or you worry in case someone took something you said the wrong way? Quit over-analysing every situation you’ve ever been in, or are currently in. The past is the past and you can’t change it, so there’s no point worrying about how things could be different. Instead, live in the moment. Think before you speak, so you don’t run away with yourself and have regrets later. Relax, and quit the ‘woulda, shoulda, coulda’.
This is good.
