How To: Organise your wardrobe

Let’s face it, hunting through your wardrobe can be stressful. It might be at bursting point with the amount of clothes in there, yet there’s still never anything to wear! To avoid this all-too-familiar feeling, keeping your wardrobe organised is key.

1. Declutter

It’s one of the most daunting tasks, we know, but it can make a huge difference. Get rid of the clothes you don’t wear, whether that’s because they don’t fit, your taste has changed, or you simply don’t wear them anymore. Sort through items that can be given away or donated to charity, and only throw away the pieces that can’t be rehomed.

2. Group clothes by type

Having different sections for your jeans, skirts, tops and dresses will make choosing an outfit much easier. You’ll be able to see exactly what items you have to choose from without delving into mountains of clothes! If you’re super organised, you could order each section so you can go along your wardrobe and construct an outfit, e.g. having bottoms first, then tops, then knitwear or dresses!

3. Colour code

It’s so easy to lose a single white blouse in a sea of blue tops. Create a wardrobe rainbow and colour code items to make finding what you’re looking for so much easier! Plus, it’ll look much neater and way more organised – who doesn’t want that?!

4. Make use of additional storage

Instead of flinging shoes and bags in the bottom of your wardrobe, make use of shelving and boxes to store them away. Not only will they be much easier to find, they’ll be kept in a better condition for longer as they’ll avoid dust and scuff marks.

5. Store away seasonal items

Those chunky knits and winter coats take up a lot of valuable space in our wardrobes. Now we’re heading towards Summer and, hopefully, won’t be needing them, consider storing them away. Utilise vacuum bags to shrink bigger items and stack them above your wardrobe, under your bed or in the loft. Swap the stored items as the seasons change to keep on top of your wardrobe all year round!

Aaaaand breathe! Your wardrobe is now organised, you can see all your clothes and you’ve got rid of clutter. Now it’s just time to decide whether you’re going to embrace this new-found closet-freedom, or go shopping to fill up your wardrobe with some gorgeous new clothes!
